Foreclosure
Foreclosure: stop the sale date and catch up over time
Filing a bankruptcy case stops a foreclosure sale while the case is open. In Chapter 13, the payments you missed are spread over three to five years, so you can keep the house if you can make the regular payment going forward.

What we do first
Read the sale notice and the date with you
Check what you're behind and what the house is worth
File before the sale if that's the right call
What it costs
Foreclosure work is part of the Chapter 13 fee. If Chapter 13 isn't the right fit, we tell you on the free call and point you to the housing counselors who can help.
When to call
As soon as the first letter comes. It's easier to save a house with weeks to spare than with days, but call even if the sale is close.
Foreclosure, answered
The sale is this week. Is it too late?
Not always. A case can be filed quickly when a sale is days away; call the office rather than waiting for a video slot.
Will the lender work with me instead?
Sometimes. A loan change is worth trying, and we can tell you whether bankruptcy gives you better terms.
What if I'd rather let the house go?
Chapter 7 can clear what's left on the loan after the sale, so you don't owe the difference.
