Flat fees

What each flat fee covers, line by line

One fee for the lawyer's work, set before you sign. Nothing is billed by the hour, and the price doesn't change if your case takes more calls.

  • First call

Thirty minutes with a lawyer, who looks at your debts, income and property and says which chapter fits, or whether you need one at all.

    • Which chapter fits, or neither
    • What you'd keep, in plain words
    • Your fee quote, in writing
    • Filing anything
    Term:
    By video

    No card needed to book.

  • Chapter 7

    Most chosen

For most people whose income is under the limit: unsecured debt cleared in about four months. Pay in up to three parts.

    • Petition and schedules, drafted with you
    • Calls to creditors and collectors stopped
    • Your lawyer at the meeting of creditors
    • Court filing fee
    • The two required credit courses

We file once the fee is paid.

  • Chapter 13

For catching up on a house or car, or when income is over the Chapter 7 limit. A first payment to start, the rest through your plan.

    • A plan built around your real budget
    • Your lawyer at the confirmation hearing
    • Changes to the plan if your income drops
    • Court filing fee
    • The two required credit courses

The court approves the fee as part of your plan.

The court's filing fee and the two credit courses are paid separately; we give you the current amounts in writing before you sign. If a creditor sues inside your case, that work is quoted on its own first, and you decide.

Costs that sit outside our fee

We list them so nothing surprises you later.

  • The court's filing fee

Paid to the court when we file. If your income is low, the court can waive the Chapter 7 fee or let you pay it in installments; we ask for you.

  • Two credit courses

One before filing and one before discharge, taken online in about an hour each. Approved providers charge a small fee, and some waive it.

  • A creditor's lawsuit inside your case

Rare, but if a creditor objects to discharge, defending it is separate work. We quote it before we start it.

Paying for it

How do I know my fee before I sign?

On the first call a lawyer tells you which chapter fits, and the fee comes in writing before you sign. It doesn't change if your case takes more calls.

Why a flat fee instead of hourly?

Because you shouldn't have to worry about the meter while you're already worried about money. We've done enough of these to price them fairly up front.

What if my case turns out to be simple?

The fee is the same. What changes is how quickly we can file.

Can a family member pay for me?

Yes. We'll need them to sign a short form saying the payment is a gift and that we work for you, not them.

What happens if I stop paying before we file?

We pause the case. Any payment you've made stays as a credit toward the fee for a year.

You'll leave it with the chapter that fits and a written quote.
